My grandmother, who has been gone for many years now, never identified as a photographer. Nonetheless, she had a talent for capturing family moments in a lively way that I envy. I'm glad she was able to vibrantly illustrate the people and settings of the past that I only know through the oral stories which have been passed down through generations.

In this series, I converse with my grandmother's images by carrying her slides with me through my daily life  and photographing them within landscapes that remind me of her and the family stories I've been told. This exercise allows me to connect to my passed relatives by making a space to reflect on how they would respond if they were in the landscape with me. It's a way for me to be in dialogue with my grandmother and other relatives, share experiences with them, and make something together that can be added to the ongoing visual archive of our family.
